Funding from other sources may supplement the overall project but it must be clear in the application regarding the exact scientific protocol and research questions that the SPARK Grant will solely address.
The Institution Overhead Cap is 25% of the Total Amount of the grant. This is set at 25% to ensure that adequate funds are available for the Principal Investigator to pursue the research questions. Applicants are responsible for notifying and obtaining approval for the 25% overhead cap prior to applications. Investigators are often able to negotiate waivers with the institutions for the 25% since the total amount of the grant is modest.
If the host institution or the Awardee wishes to terminate the award before its completion, an agreement between the host institution and the Spark Program will be arranged. Termination will be made with the understanding that all unexpended funds will be returned to the Spark Program and any unpaid balance of the award will be cancelled.
